Conjunctivitis

Following a spate of very nasty eye infections at the end of 2010, we have decided to amend and clarify our policy on exclusion for conjunctivitis.

Because the children play so closely with one another, infections such as conjunctivitis spread extremely easily despite the best efforts of our staff. During December we had several children, parents and staff all suffering from a particularly nasty strain of the infection with those suffering becoming really quite unwell. For this reason, we have decided that children suffering from conjunctivitis will be excluded from nursery until they have seen a doctor. If antibiotic drops or cream are prescribed, they must be administered for a full 24 hours before we can admit the child back to nursery. This gives enough time for the antibiotics to take effect and begin to fight the infection, decreasing the chances of it spreading further.

An up to date copy of our illness exclusion policy is available in the reception area for you to refer to.
